BEAUMONT, Texas—McNeese softball scored early and often and senior pitcher
Whitney Tate was dealing in the circle in the Cowgirls' 12-0 run-rule win over Lamar Saturday in the SLC series finale.
With the win, McNeese completes its third straight SLC series sweep this season to improve to 26-10 overall and 9-0 in the SLC. The loss drops Lamar to 10-25 overall and 3-6 in the SLC.
McNeese took a 1-0 lead in the first inning then added five more runs in the second inning on three hits and took advantage of three Lamar errors to lead 6-0. The Cowgirls then added six more runs in the fifth on seven hits to end the day with 12 hits and seven stolen bases.
Designated player
Kaylee Lopez led the Cowgirl hitting attack with a 3 for 3 plate appearance including a double, two RBI and scored one run.
Alayis Seneca and
Corine Poncho ended the day with two hits apiece while
Mariana Torres led the team with three RBI.
In the circle, Tate tossed her fifth career one-hitter to improve to 12-2 overall and 4-0 in the SLC. Tate retired the first 11 batters she faced before giving up her only hit of the game to Hayley Freudenbergh in the fourth inning. Tate faced 16 batters and ended the game with five strikeouts without giving up a walk.
