SAN ANTONIO –
Cooper Hext and Elliott Hebert each hit home runs to power a McNeese offense that recorded 12 hits, four of those for extra-bases and the Cowboys defeated Incarnate Word 9-2 to win the final game of a three-game Southland Conference baseball series on Sunday afternoon.
The win improved McNeese's record to 28-15 overall and 9-9 in league play while UIW fell to 24-20 and 11-7.
The Cowboys will be back in action next weekend when they host Lamar for a three-game series beginning Friday at 6. McNeese will honor its seniors on Sunday prior to the 1 p.m. first pitch. All three games will broadcast on ESPN Plus.
Batting Stars:
• Tré Obregon III went 3-for-5 with an RBI, run scored and a double.
•
Brad Burckel finished 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.
•
Braden Duhon was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
•
Josh Leslie went 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
• Both Hebert and Hext knocked in two runs.
Cowboys Scoring:
• Led 2-0 after the first inning when the Cowboys scored on an RBI single by Obregon and RBI double by Burckel.
• The lead grew to 3-0 in the third when
Josh Leslie stole home on a successful double steal.
• After UIW scored a run in the B3 to pull to within 3-1, McNeese added five runs in the fifth inning to open up an 8-1 lead with all five runs coming with two outs in the inning.
• Burckel singled in Orbregon, who got the rally going with a 2-out double, making it 4-1.
• Hebert followed with a pinch-hit home run to increase the lead to 6-1.

Payton Harden then walked and stole second and Hext followed with a 2-run homer to make it 8-1.
• With the score 8-2 in the eighth,
Ben David hit a sacrifice fly to score Harden and make it 9-2.
Cowboys Pitching:
•
Ty Abraham started the game and threw 4.0 innings and allowed one unearned run and four hits, walked two and struck out two.
•
Brock Barthelemy (2-0) picked up the win in relief after throwing the next 3.2 innings and gave up one run on four hits, struck out one and walked two.
•
Cameron Lejeune and
Derrick Cherry closed out the game by tossing the final 1.1 innings of scoreless ball and allowed only one hit while striking out two.
