LAKE CHARLES – McNeese Baseball head coach
Justin Hill has announced the promotion of volunteer assistant
Mikey Hoehner to a full-time position.
Hoehner's promotion comes with the departure of long-time assistant coach Nick Zaleski who recently took a position at Tarleton State.
"I'm excited to announce the promotion of
Mikey Hoehner as a full-time assistant coach," said Hill. "Mikey had a tremendous impact during his first season, and he was an invaluable resource for me. I'm thankful that he and (his wife) Mary Grace will continue to be a part of our program."
Hoehner joined the Cowboy staff in August 2022 and assisted McNeese to a Southland Conference Tournament appearance where it won two games. He will further help with the defensive efforts of the team going forward as the defensive coordinator.
I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to continue coaching for McNeese," said Hoehner. "I enjoy being a part of this staff and I'm excited to continue building upon the sustained success of the program and players."
Hoehner arrived at McNeese after spending the 2022 season as an assistant coach at Navarro (TX) College where he worked with the hitters, catchers and outfielders and served as the first-base coach. He was also at the forefront of the strength and conditioning program for the team and managed scouting reports.
The former catcher enjoyed a three-year career (2018-21) at Texas A&M in which he played in 123 games for the maroon and white, including 112 starts. Hoehner posted a .269 (104-for-386) career batting average, logged 69 runs, 18 doubles, one triple, six home runs, 53 RBI, and 61 walks while slugging .368 with a .385 on-base percentage.
Prior to Texas A&M, Hoehner played two seasons at Cisco College where he earned NTJCAC All-Conference honors as a freshman and sophomore.
The Houston, Texas native majored in Supply Chain Management and graduated with his Master's degree in Sport Management from Texas A&M in 2021.
