LAKE CHARLES—The Gold team prevailed 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 25-22, 25-21) over the Blue team here Saturday in McNeese volleyballs annual Blue/Gold scrimmage which served as the final tune-up prior to the season opener on Friday, August 25 at the Auburn War Eagle Invitational.

The Gold team was led in kills by newcomers junior
Carissa Chainey and freshman
Emmalynn Montes. Chainey posted a double double with a match high 23 kills to go along with 13 digs and three aces.   Montes also collected a double double with 13 kills and 10 digs.Â
Bailey Tillman picked up where she left off last season with a defensive effort in picking up 13 digs. Freshman setter
Megan Grose also ended the match with a double double by dishing out 42 assists and 11 digs. Defensively,
Sanni Rantanen and
McKenzie Moore were strong at the net, combining for nine blocks with Rantanen picking up six and Moore with three. Â

The Blue team was led in kills by Memphis transfer
Kayla Wilson's 19 kills and six blocks while transfer
Emma Hendricks led all players with 43 assists. Freshman
Isabella Ceja led all players with four service aces and 22 digs while
Kendall Osgood was credited with 21 digs.

McNeese will open its season on Friday, August 25 at the War Eagle Invitational. The Cowgirls will face Coppin State at 10 a.m. and Jacksonville State at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Saturday's schedule has the Cowgirls facing Auburn at 10 a.m.

A quick turnaround for the Cowgirls in the opening weekend will have them closing out the weekend with a 5 p.m. match at Houston on Sunday, Aug. 27.

The home opener is schedule for Sept. 5 at 6:30 p.m. against Southern.
