LAKE CHARLES—McNeese volleyball will continue its challenging early season schedule when the Cowgirls travel to Provo, Utah to take part in the BYU doTerra Classic this Thursday and Friday.

McNeese (0-4) will look to pick up its first win of the season following its season opening weekend at the Auburn War Eagle Invitational and a road loss to then No. 19 Houston on Sunday.

Things won't get easier this weekend when the Cowgirls open tournament play Thursday against their second straight ranked opponent in No. 9 BYU at 9 p.m. (CT).  The match will be streamed on ESPN+.  McNeese will face UC Davis at 8 p.m. (CT) Friday.

BYU (3-0) will host Loyola Marymount Wednesday night in its home opener before facing McNeese Thursday.  The Cougars opened their season at the Montana Ellesyn Invitational with wins over Pitt, UTRGV, and Montana.

UC Davis opened the season with wins over Arizona and North Carolina last weekend but dropped its first match of the season at Pacific Tuesday night.

For the Cowgirls, second year head coach Sasha Karelov and her staff are continuing to get not only her newcomers adjusted to her system and style of play, but six freshmen are playing collegiately for the first time.  Karelov will continue to adjust her lineup this weekend to find what combination works best for the Cowgirls.

Junior transfer Carissa Chainey leads the Cowgirls in kills (35) while junior McKenzie Moore is tops on the team with 11 blocks and is second with 26 kills.  Freshman setter Megan Grose has a team high 100 assists and junior Bailey Tillman picked up where she left off last season and is leading the team with 46 digs.
