Soccer hosts Texas Southern in home opener, South Alabama Sunday

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese's soccer program (1-3-0) will play host to Texas Southern (0-4-0) and South Alabama (4-0-0) this Friday and Sunday at Cowgirl Field for the first weekend at home this season. Friday's matchup will begin at 6 p.m. while Sunday's match is scheduled for 12 p.m.
 
"We are looking to try to continue to build on our foundation and add something every match," said head coach Drew Fitzgerald. "Friday will be another test of how much progress we are making. Texas Southern has played in some close matches and is hungry to get a win so we know they'll be ready for a fight."
 
The Tigers and Cowgirls met last during the 2013 season when the former came out on top 2-0. On the other hand, South Alabama and McNeese met as recently as last season with the Jaguars winning 7-0.
 
Both matches have live stats to accompany them with plans to upload the video at a later date.
 
McNeese Notes
- Kaile Kukaua (2), Isabelle Smith (1), and Morgan Fiedler (1) each scored their first career goals against Alcorn.
- Kukaua and Smith both got their first career assists as well.
- The team scored exactly six goals for the first time since 2018.
- McNeese claimed its first victory of the season against Alcorn.
- Rachel Young is eighth all-time in goals scored at 15 and ninth all-time for the program with 35 points.
- Jackie Kelly is eighth all-time for the program with 23 starts for a goalie and tied for eighth in games played by a goalie at 29.
- Kelly also sits at eighth in program history with 111 career saves.

- McNeese holds a 4-0 record all-time against Texas Southern.
- When the teams last met in 2013, the Cowgirls won 12-2.
