Cowgirls earn second win against Texas Southern

LAKE CHARLES - McNeese's soccer program (2-3-0) defeated Texas Southern (0-5-0) 3-0 at Cowgirls Field Friday night for the second victory of the season and within the past seven days.

"It was about putting together a good half of soccer," said head coach Drew Fitzgerald. "I think it's nice to have three different players get on the board and start to see some production from some different places."

Morgan Fiedler, a freshman, scored the first goal of the match in the 38th minute of play for her second goal of the 2023 campaign. Fiedler received assistance by sophomore Isabelle Smith, her second assist of the season.

Sophomore Salma Elhaimer claimed the team's second goal with the help by classmate Anouk Linders. They each had their first goal and assist of the season.

Kaile Kukaua, a junior, earned her third goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 78th minute of action.

The victory marks the team's first 3-0 victory since defeating UIW at home in the 2022 season.

The Cowgirls return to action Sunday in a mid-day matchup against South Alabama at Cowgirl Field starting at noon.
