LAKE CHARLES- McNeese volleyball began its three-match home stand Tuesday night with a 3-1 (26-28, 25-23, 25-20, 28-26) win over UL-Monroe (4-10) in the final non-conference match of the season. Three Cowgirls recorded double figure kills and assists on the night.
After dropping the first set, one that consisted of 23 ties, McNeese (3-11) went on to pick up wins in the next three sets including a comeback win in the fourth set where the Cowgirls trailed 5-1 early in the set.
Carissa Chainey led all players with a career high 22 kills and added 20 digs to record her fourth double double of the season.
Kayla Wilson picked up 19 kills and
Tshilanda Diouf ended with a career high 12 kills.
Bailey Tillman led all players with a match high 28 digs while
Kendall Osgood picked up a career high 21 digs.
Emma Hendricks came off the bench to dish out a career high 45 assists and
Sanni Rantanen led with four blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
• The set went back and forth until the end
• The set consisted of 23 ties and 12 lead changes
• With the set tied at 26 apiece, ULM scored the next two points on a Cowgirl hitting error and a Cowgirl ball handling error to take a 1-0 lead
Set 2
• With McNeese trailing 10-9, McNeese scored six straight points to take a 15-10 lead
• McNeese then led 23-19 but a 41 run by ULM pulled the Warhawks to within one point (24-23)
• A kill by setter
Emma Hendricks gave McNeese the win and tied the match at one apiece
Set 3
• After an early tie, kills by Hendricks and
Tshilanda Diouf put the Cowgirls up 5-3 and a lead they wouldn't give up
• McNeese led by as many as six points throughout the set and took a 2-1 lead with the third set win
Set 4
• UL-Monroe took a quick 5-1 lead and held the lead until late in the set when a
Carissa Chainey kill tied the set at 21 apiece. The set would tie up four more times with the last at 26 all.
• A UL-Monroe attacking error gave McNeese its first lead of the set (27-26) then Chainey ended the match with hers season high 22
