Former Cowboy golfer Robert MacIntyre is a member of Team Europe for the 2023 Ryder Cup which begins on Friday morning.
History will be made on Friday when former McNeese Cowboys golfer Robert MacIntyre will make his Ryder Cup debut for Team Europe at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy.
Â
MacIntyre will be the first golfer in McNeese and Southland Conference history to contend for one of sport's most prestigious trophies.
Â
A native of Oban, Scotland, MacIntyre played for the Cowboys in the 2014-15 season and was named the 2015 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year while earning first team All-SLC honors.
Â
Turning pro in 2017, MacIntyre has been a consistent challenger on the DP World Tour. He earned a spot on Team Europe with an automatic qualification after placing third behind Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm in the European points standings and 10
th among the world points rankings. He has over $7 million in earnings and has three tour wins under his belt in his young career.
Â
But playing on Team Europe for the Ryder Cup is something on a different level and is incomparable.
Â
"Nothing's going to prepare me for that first tee shot," he said in a recent interview. "It's just plain and simple. It's something bigger than I've ever been involved in and ever experienced."
Â
The Ryder Cup will tee off Friday morning at 1:30 a.m. Central Time and can be seen on the USA Network and Peacock Network as well as NBC on the Saturday and Sunday.
Â
MacIntyre is not scheduled for the opening foursome on Friday morning.
