LAKE CHARLES—For the second straight day and third straight match, McNeese volleyball jumped out to an early 2-1 lead but couldn't finish off Jackson State and Sam Houston Saturday on the final day of the McNeese Invitational, dropping both matches in five sets.
McNeese (1-9) began the day falling to Jackson State 23-25, 25-14, 25-17, 15-25, 12-15 before ending tournament play with 25-21, 23-25, 26-24, 20-25, 13-15 loss to Sam Houston.
For the second straight day,
McKenzie Moore led the Cowgirls with 38 digs and 9 blocks on the day.
Sanni Rantanen finished the tournament with 29 kills and six blocks and
Kayla Wilson contributed with 27 kills.
On defense,
Bailey Tillman was credited with 41 digs and
Megan Grose dished out 110 assists and four aces.
McNeese will return to the road next week when they travel to Texas A&M-Commerce for its Southland Conference opener on Thursday, Sept. 14. The Cowgirls will remain on the road for the weekend and will take part in the Texas-Arlington Invitational where they will face host UT-Arlington at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, and North Texas at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16.
