Huskies defeat Cowgirls on penalty kicks

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese soccer was taken down by HCU Sunday afternoon 2-1 by way of penalty kicks at Cowgirl Field.

The Pitch Side:
• Florencia Saavedra earned her first collegiate goal off a corner kick with less than seven minutes left in the first half.
• Morgan Fiedler earned her second assist of the season.
• Tatiana Diaz made her first collegiate start for the Cowgirls.
• McNeese and HCU tied in number of shots taken with eight each.
• McNeese took three corner kicks to HCU's one.
• Jackie Kelly earned five saves in the net for the Pokes with four in the first period and one in the latter.
• Morgan Schooley competed in all 90 minutes of action to raise her consecutive minutes played to 900.
• Anna Kovats and Kelly also competed in all 90 minutes.
• Marked the first time Coach Fitzgerald matched up against Coach Whiting since the latter became a head coach.
 
How It Happened:
• Florencia Saavedra earned the first goal of the match off a corner dished up by Morgan Fiedler at the 38:29 minute mark.
• Alexa Huerta put the Huskies on the board 32 seconds later on a penalty kick.
• Alexa Huerta scored the game-winning goal with less than 10 minutes to play on a penalty kick.
