LAKE CHARLES – McNeese senior forward Christian Shumate has been named a preseason All-American by Bracketeer.org, earning second team honors.
 
Bracketeer.org recognizes players from the 22 non-power conferences and identified 68 players within those conferences to a watch list, regardless of position. Three preseason All-American teams selected from that watch list, which includes Shumate on the second team.
 
Last year's Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a preseason first team all-SLC selection for 2024-25, Shumate is one of three Cowboy players to be named to the All-American Watch List, joining newcomers Joe Charles and Sincere Parker.
 
McNeese is the only team to have three players named to the Preseason Watch List.
 
Last season Shumate led the league and ranked 31^st in the NCAA with 9.5 rebounds per game, 15^th in the nation with 3.6 offensive boards per game, and was 35^th in the country with 12 double-doubles. He also led the team with 57 dunks, a.k.a "Shu Slams," with nine of those featured on ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays of the Day.
 
Charles is a senior forward transfer from Louisiana-Lafayette where he earned third team All-Sun Belt Conference honors last season. He averaged 11.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game while starting all 33 contests. He ended the year with 11 double-doubles.
 
Parker is a junior guard transfer from Saint Louis where he averaged 15.9 points per game last season while connecting on 43% from three-point range and 49% total from the field.
 
The watch list was comprised after seven consecutive months of schedule consulting and mass-scale roster tracking by Rocco Miller and input from various coaches, industry journalists, and industry peers throughout the offseason.
 
A midseason watch list will be released in early January and the final All-American awards will be announced in March.
 
Eligible conferences include the American East, ASUN, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, CAA, Conference USA, Horizon League, Ivy League, MAAC, MAC, MEAC, MVC, NEC, OVC, Patriot League, SoCon, Southland, SWAC, Summit League, Sun Belt, and the WAC.
