LAKE CHARLES – McNeese Vice President and Director of Athletics Heath Schroyer has announced that football coach
Gary Goff will not return for another season. A search for a new coach will begin immediately.
Goff ends his three-year career at McNeese with a record of 10-23 at the helm including a 5-14 record in Southland Conference play. Defensive coordinator
Tony Pecoraro has been named interim head coach throughout the process.
Said Schroyer in a statement: "After evaluating our football program, I felt a change in leadership was necessary. I appreciate Coach Goff's time at McNeese. During his three years with the program, he addressed many inherited, off-field issues. He's a good coach, and I wish him nothing but success moving forward.
"With the investment we have made in our football program and facilities over the last few years, we will not accept nor celebrate mediocrity. McNeese is a special place with a rich tradition. We have one of, if not the best, fan bases in FCS football. We should be competing for SLC championships and be nationally relevant!
"I will find a coach who not only accepts that standard, but embraces it."
McNeese has won a league-record 14 conference championships and made 16 playoff appearances, another Southland record, both last occurring in the 2015 season.
