LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball sophomore guard
Boston Berry scored a game and season high 15 points to lead the Cowgirls in an 81-43 win over St. Thomas (Texas) Thursday night, improving McNeese to 4-3 on the season.
Berry was one of four Cowgirls to score in double figures in the game.
Lyla Kahrimanovic and
Kyla Davis came off the bench to score 13 and 11, respectively.
Azjah Reeves chipped in with 10 points.
Mireia Yespes led all players with 11 rebounds.
Berry was 5 of 9 from the field including two 3-pointers and 3 of 4 from the free throw line. Berry also pulled down four rebounds and was credited with three assists.
McNeese scored the first nine points of the game and held a double figure lead with four minutes to play and led 24-7 after the first quarter.
St. Thomas (2-3) was held to 10 points in the second quarter and McNeese held a 39-17 halftime lead.
The Cowgirls dominated in the paint and the boards, scoring 54 of their points in the paint including 22 in the first half. McNeese outrebounded the Celts 48-29 with 32 coming of the defensive end.
Julia Puente's three-point play with 3:34 left in the third quarter put the Cowgirls up by 30 points (51-21) and McNeese held its largest lead of 39 with 1:18 left in the game on a layup by Berry.
St. Thomas was led in scoring by Macie Whitfield who scored 13 points and Ravyn Ellis ended with 11 points.
McNeese will break for the Thanksgiving Holiday and will return to action Dec. 6-8 when they will travel to Farmville, Va. To take part in the Shirley Duncan Classic hosted by Longwood.
The next home game for the Cowgirls will be its Southland Conference opener against Southeastern on Dec. 21.
