LAKE CHARLES—Texas A&M-Commerce connected on 12 three-pointers Thursday night on its way to a 94-70 Southland Conference women's basketball win over McNeese.
The loss is the 11
th straight for the Cowgirls who fell to 4-18 overall and 0-9 in the SLC. The Lions improve to 10-9 overall and 5-4 in league play.
Emilia Tenbrock led a trio of Cowgirls in double figures with 20 points.
Boston Berry chipped in with a career high 17 points and
Clara Rosini tied her career high with 10 points. Julie Puente led McNeese with 10 rebounds.
Four of the five A&M-Commerce starters scored in double figures with Mia Deck leading all players with 22 points. Jordyn Newsome (18), Ahmya Boyce (16) and Jasmine Payne (12) also scored in double figures.
The Lions jumped out to an earl 13-5 lead in the first three minutes of the game but a 9-0 run by the Cowgirls a 14-13 lead, its only lead of the game. The lead lasted 30 seconds before A&M-Commerce retook the lead for good.
McNeese trailed 49-32 at the half behind a 33.3 field goal shooting percent while the Lions shot 55.9 percent from the field.
A&M-Commerce opened the second half on a mini run to take a 22-point lead (58-36) and led 74-56 after the third quarter.
The Lions outrebounded the Cowgirls 45-33 and scored 44 points in the paint. One bright spot for the Cowgirls was they committed only nine turnovers. McNeese entered the game averaging 19.9 per game.
McNeese will travel to Southeastern Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
