LAKE CHARLES – Despite the effort of a strong second quarter, the McNeese women's basketball program fell short against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Cowgirls (4-21, 0-12 SLC) were outdone by the Islanders (15-7, 8-3 SLC) in the 78-64 loss as the latter scored 20+ points in three quarters of action. McNeese outscored A&M-Corpus Christi with a large second quarter, putting up 23 points to their 10.

Emilia Tenbrock tied a season and career high in assists in a game with four, marking several times she's done so.Â

Cristina Gil, classmate to Tenbrock, netted 15 points in the outing, collecting three rebounds and two assists as well on the court.

After returning home for the weekend, the blue and gold return to the road for two consecutive matchups, the first in a week against Nicholls.

• Reeves and Gil combined for the first nine points for the Pokes
• Reeves, Gil, and Berry each had a three in the opening quarter

• 14 of the team's points came in the paint by the half
• The team shot 53.3% in field goal percentage, making 8 of 15 shots
• McNeese outscored the Islanders 23-10 in the second

• The Pokes opened the third quarter with a 6-3 run to extend their lead 41-36
• After losing the lead at the 5:53 mark, the blue and gold regained it at 2:47 on a jumper by Reeves
• Both teams ended the third with 22 points in the paint
• The Cowgirls shot 54.5% from the field in the third

• Tenbrock earned her fourth assist to tie her season high
