SB: Sanders Strikes Out 10 In Complete Game Win Over Boise State

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball got another solid outing from senior pitcher Shaelyn Sanders in its 4-1 win over Boise State Wednesday night to improve to 7-4 on the season.  Boise State, who received votes in this week's Top 25 poll, falls to 8-3 on the year with the loss.

Sanders picked up the complete game victory to improve to 3-2 overall, setting the tone early by striking out seven of the first nine batters she faced and had a perfect game through four complete innings.  She ended the game with a season high 10 strikeouts, without allowing a walk.  The 10 strikeouts are two shy of tying her career high of 12 she recorded against Houston Christian in 2022.

Following a Cowgirl error in the fifth, Sanders gave up the first of three hits allowed in the game.  She allowed another hit in the sixth before giving up a leadoff solo home run to designated player Brooklyn Pettis in the top of the seventh.

Rylie Bouvier gave McNeese an early 1-0 leas in the second inning with a solo homerun, her second of the season.

The Cowgirls added single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to extend its lead to 4-0 before the Broncos got on the board in the seventh inning.

Freshman Alexis Dibbley led the Cowgirls at the plate, going 2 for 3 including a double and one RBI.  Crislyne Moreno continued her hot hitting with her third double of the season that scored Reese Reyna for the run in the fifth inning.

McNeese will remain home for its Cowgirl Classic II this Friday and Saturday with Lamar, Niagara, and North Dakota taking part in the tournament.
