BEAUMONT, Texas—League leading Lamar women's basketball dominated McNeese from the opening tip Thursday night, extending its winning streak to nine games and improved to 9-1 at home with a 73-43 win.
The loss drops McNeese to 4-23 overall and 0-14 in the SLC. The loss for the Cowgirls is their 16
th straight and 18
th in the last 19 games.
With the win, Lamar remains atop the conference standings as they improve to 19-5 overall and 13-1 in the SLC. The win is their 15
th straight over McNeese.
The Cowgirls trailed 18-8 after the first period and 35-17 at the half with Lamar ending both quarters with a three-pointer at the buzzer.
The Cardinals shot 47.4 percent from behind the three-point line, connecting on nine of 19 attempts and 44.6 percent (29-65) from the field.
McNeese's shooting woes continued with the Cowgirls shooting 27.5 (14-51) percent from the field including 2 of 10 from three-point range.
For the second straight game,
Mireia Yespes led McNeese in scoring with 11 points and was the only Cowgirl to reach double figures.
Boston Berry led McNeese with eight rebounds and
Julia Puente pulled down a game high 11 rebounds.
Lamar placed three players in double figure scoring with Sabrina Dean leading the way with 14 points. Deans was 6 of 11 from the field and dished out six assists. Malay McQueen (13 pts.) and Jacei Delaney (12 pts.) also scored in double figures. Akasha Davis led all players with 10 rebounds.
McNeese will return home Saturday to host Incarnate Word at 1 p.m. for the first of its last three home games of the season.
