McNeese falls to Louisiana Tech in midweek matchup

LAKE CHARLES, La. - McNeese's four-game winning streak came to an end against the undefeated Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech 13-4 at Joe Miller Ballpark Wednesday night. The Cowboys fall to 4-5 on the season as the Bulldogs rise to 8-0.

"There were some individual things that the guys did well," said head coach Justin Hill. "We got off to an okay start offensively, we had a few opportunities early, but we didn't cash in, just experience plays.

Louisiana Tech scored 11 runs to start off the game spread out through six innings as the Cowboys looked to strike back in the bottom of the seventh.

Freshman Gage Trahan earned the first run of the night for the Cowboys in the bottom of the seventh on a single by junior Conner Westenburg. Two at-bats later, Easton Dowell, a redshirt freshman, came back to home plate on a single by redshirt senior Chase Keeton. The third and final run scored in the inning was by Westenburg on a wild pitch.

Senior right-handed pitcher Zach Voss made his third start of the season and remained in the game for 3.2 innings, striking out two before classmate Kainin Morrow entered for an out.

Through four innings of work senior Brian Shadrick came in for five outs, striking out a batter.  Freshman Kohl Navarre made his collegiate debut for 1.1 innings of work, facing seven batters.

Redshirt junior Clay Kennedy and senior David Carr each threw one inning of work to close down the game for the Cowboys. Kennedy didn't allow a run against the Bulldogs.

Voss was given the loss while Copeland earned his second victory of the season.

Keeton and Dowell each collected in two hits in four at-bats with the latter earning the team's second run. Earning a single hit for McNeese were Westenburg, senior Cooper Hext, and junior Connor Schneider.

McNeese continues its home stand against Prairie View A&M for a three-game series starting Friday at 6 p.m. at Joe Miller Ballpark.
