THIBODAUX—McNeese softball clinched the Southland Conference series over Nicholls Saturday with a 2-0 shutout win behind another one-hitter from senior
Shaelyn Sanders.
The one-hitter by Sanders is her second of the series as she tossed a one-hitter in the series opening 4-1 win over the Colonels on Friday.
With the complete game shutout, Sanders improves to 8-6 on the year. Sanders ended today's game with nine strikeouts and allowed one walk, ending the series with 19 strikeouts, one walk and a 0.45 ERA .
McNeese improved to 16-13 overall and 2-1 in the SLC, Nicholls fell to 16-14 on the year and 4-2 in the SLC.
The Cowgirls scored both run in the fourth inning taking a 1-0 lead when
Corine Poncho led the inning off with a single before coming home to score on a
Mariana Torres triple. Torres would score the second run on a Nicholls error.
Poncho led the Cowgirls' five hit day, going 2 for 2 and scored one run.
Brilee Ford and
Delaney Dunham also picked singles in the game.
McNeese will return home on Friday, March 22 to host Incarnate Word in the first game of a three-game Southland Conference series.
