LAKE CHARLES, La. – Posting a career night,
Peyton LeJeune helped McNeese to a 19-12 victory over the Prairie View A&M baseball program at Joe Miller Ballpark Saturday afternoon. The Cowboys improve to 6-5 on the season as the Panthers drop to 6-4.
LeJeune, a senior, had career night that fell just short of rewriting the McNeese history books with a .600 performance, going 3-for-5 coming as a double and two home runs for a tally of seven RBIs for the Pokes. The first home run came in the first inning to score three with his latter in the fifth for a two-run home run.
"I think it was just important that I came up in some big spots with an opportunity to drive in runs and I think we needed it at the time," said LeJeune.
McNeese made the most of three major innings in the first, fourth, and fifth by plating a total of 13 runs as the offense rode its blazing bats. The Cowboys extended its scoring streak that began in the fourth inning through the eighth with a run in the sixth, two in the seventh, and three in the eighth to close out the game.
During the course of the outing, three lead changes took place within the initial four innings until the Pokes claimed it from the fourth inning on. The Cowboys outhit the Panthers 20-12 with six players earning multiple hits and three with a single hit each.
"Learning how to win is really important and I think that's what we're doing right now," said senior
Braden Duhon.
Duhon had a 4-for-6 performance to own the highest batting average of the game, scoring two runs and collecting two runs batted in. He hit two doubles and had two stolen bases.
Both earning 19 runs and 20 hits were a season-high for the Cowboys as they have now earned at least seven hits in each of their last eight games.
Earning the win on the mound was senior
Brock Barthelemy as Carlton was credited with the loss.
McNeese concludes the three-game series against Prairie View Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Joe Miller Ballpark.
