BATON ROUGE—McNeese softball fell 3-0 to Illinois and 2-1 to #4/#5 LSU Saturday on the second day of the LSU Tiger Classic to fall to 12-6 on the year.
McNeese will play Louisiana Tech at 12:30 p.m. and LSU against at 3 p.m. Sunday. The LSU game will stream on SECN+.
Illinois (5-8) scored a single run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly then added two more in the sixth with one run coming off a Cowgirl error.
McNeese collected four hits in the game and
Rylie Bouvier picked up two of the four Cowgirl hits.
Lindsay Davis took the loss to fall to 2-3 on the year. Davis gave up all three runs on five hits in the complete game.
In the nightcap, McNeese took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a
Samantha Mundine single through the left side that scored
Crislyne Moreno. Moreno led the game off with a walk.
LSU (17-0) tied the game at one apiece in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Maci Bergeron then took a 2-1 lead the following inning on a solo homerun by Ali Newland.
McNeese had tying run on third with one out following an
Emily Phillips base hit through the right side. Pinch runner
Brilee Ford was thrown out at second for the second out and
Rylie Bouvier grounded out to third to end the game.
After allowing the single to Mundine in the first inning, LSU starter Kelley Lynch retired the next 16 batters she faced. Lynch didn't allow another Cowgirl to reach base until Mundine's walk in the seventh inning.
Lynch allowed one run on one hit with five strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Reliever Sydney Berzon threw the final inning, giving up one hit.
Shaelyn Sanders fell to 4-3 on the year with the loss in relief of starter
Ryann Schexnayder. Sanders allowed one run on four hits with two strikeouts and Schexnayder tossed 1 2/3 innings and allowed one run on three hits.
