WBB: Azjah Reeves' Free Throws Seals Win Over Nicholls

LAKE CHARLES—Freshman Azjah Reeves sank two free throws with four tenths of a second left on the clock to give McNeese women's basketball a 78-76 Southland Conference win in its home finale Saturday.  The win was the Cowgirls' second consecutive victory after defeating Houston Christian 72-64 on Thursday.

McNeese (6-24, 2-15 SLC) trailed 40-35 at the half but outscored Nicholls 43-36 in the second half to pick up the win.

Nicholls carried a 55-51 lead into the fourth quarter where the Cowgirls outscored the Colonels 27-21.

McNeese opened the final quarter on a 5-2 run to tie the game at 57 apiece following one of two free throws by Boston Berry.

The Cowgirls held as much as a four-point lead with 2:05 left to play but a 5-1 Nicholls run put the Colonels up 74-73 with :13 left.

Following a Cowgirl timeout, Berry put the Cowgirls up 75-74 on a jumper as the shot clock was winding down and was fouled as well.  The made free throw gave the Cowgirls a 76-74 lead with nine seconds to play.

Nicholls' Deonna Brister was then fouled with six second left and made both free throws to tie the game at 76.

Reeves was then fouled with .4 on the clock and made what proved to be the two-game winning free throws.

Nicholls made a last dish effort to win the game, but Mikayla Etienne's three-pointer was off the mark as time expired.

McNeese placed four Cowgirls in double figures with Mireia Yespes leading all players with 19 points.  Boston Berry ended with 16 points and six assists.  Clara Rosini recorded her first career double double with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Reeves scored 12 points.

Nicholls also had four players score in double figures with Westlake native and former Cowgirl Kyla Hamilton leading the Colonels with 18 points.

The Cowgirls will travel to New Orleans next Wednesday to face UNO in its season finale.
