Cowboys claim first road victory in extra innings over Wildcats

PINEVILLE, La. - With two outs on the board in the 10th inning, junior Grant Mangrum brought in the go-ahead run on an RBI single to ultimately elevate McNeese Baseball over Louisiana Christian 6-5 late Wednesday night at Billy Allgood Field.

Earning their first road victory of the season, the Cowboys improve to 8-5, winning four in a row, while the record of the Wildcats remains unaffected.

Both teams battled back and forth, seeing three different lead changes after LCU went up 1-0 in the third inning before McNeese plated three in the fourth to make it a 3-1 game. The Cowboys tacked on two more runs in the fifth before the Wildcats responded with the same and two more in the sixth.

Remaining tied through three innings, McNeese was able to snap a scoreless streak with a run in the top of the 10th for the win.

Senior Kainin Morrow was credited with his third victory of the 2024 campaign as redshirt junior Cameron LeJeune tallied his third save. Five total pitchers took to the mound with Ty Abraham, a redshirt senior, making the start.

Junior Cole Plowman hit the best of the blue and gold, earning his first two hits of the season, one of which being his first home run while with Poke Nation. He collected two runs and two runs batted in over four at-bats while being walked once.

Six other members of the Cowboys' squad earned a lone hit for a team total of eight on the night. Through 13 games played, it marks the 12th consecutive time McNeese has earned at least six hits in a game.

McNeese resumes action Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. against second-ranked Arkansas to continue its road trip.
