TALLAHASSEE, Fl.— For the second straight game, No. 18 Florida State softball run-ruled McNeese. After a 12-0 (5 inn.) win Tuesday night, the Seminoles defeated the Cowgirls 8-0 (5 inn.) Wednesday night.
Florida State improves to 26-9 with the win while the Cowgirls fall to 23-15. McNeese will return to Southland Conference play this weekend against Lamar beginning with a single game Friday.
McNeese had its chances to put runs on the board but couldn't get the timely hit it needed. The Cowgirls stranded seven runners including the bases loaded with two outs in the fifth inning.
Florida State once again took the early lead in the first inning with a single run then scored five more on five hits in the second inning to give them a 6-0 lead.
The Cowgirls collected six hits with six different players picking up one hit.
Corine Poncho's double in the third inning was the only base hit for McNeese.
The Seminoles collected 11 hits in the game including three extra base hits with one homerun. Kailey Mudge led FSU with three hits including two doubles and two RBI.
Alexis Dibbley (2-1) suffered the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits in 1 2/3 innings.
Ryann Schexnayder tossed 2 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on four hits.
Ashtyn Danley improved to 7-2 on the year with the complete game shutout. Danley allowed six hits, two walks and struck out six.
