Lamar forces Cowboys to rubber match

BEAUMONT, Texas – After battling through 11 innings on the diamond, McNeese Baseball (16-13, 2-3 SLC) fell to Lamar (24-6, 4-1 SLC) 1-0 as the Cardinals pitched a no-hitter Saturday evening at Vincent-Beck Stadium to force a Sunday rubber match.

Zach Voss made his seventh start of his senior campaign, going on to throw a season-high 7.1 shutout innings, striking out two and only permitting five hits. He threw just under 100 pitches on the mound at 98 before seeing relief enter the game.

JT Moeller, a senior, made his second straight appearance for two outs to close down the eighth before graduate student Daelan Caraway entered the game for the final 2.1 innings.

Redshirt freshman Easton Dowell was the first batter to get on base in the seventh and ultimately battled his way to third on a double error just before the inning came to a close.

Senior Elliot Hebert made it on base in the top of the 10th to continue applying pressure on the Cardinals' pitching. Both base runners for the Cowboys came on walks.

McNeese and Lamar return to Vincent-Beck Stadium Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. available to stream on ESPN+.
