CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas—McNeese women's tennis suffered its first Southland Conference loss of the season, 5-2 at the hands of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday in a match among the only two undefeated teams in the SLC.  The winner would take sole possession of first place in the standings.
 
McNeese took the early lead by winning the doubles point with wins at No. 1 doubles (Arina Gamretkaia/Anastasija Adeikyte) and No. 3 doubles (Tiana Fox/Aina Domingo-Bernabeu.  The Cowgirls would pick up a singles win by Maria Wang Martinez at the No. 5 singles but the Islanders picked up the other five singles victories to win the match.
 
The loss drops McNeese to 18-2 overall and 5-1 in the SLC.  The loss also snaps the Cowgirls' 16 match winning streak. 
 
McNeese will conclude its regular season at Incarnate Word Monday in an 11 a.m. match.
 
The Islanders take control of the SLC standings with the win as they improve to 18-2 overall and 5-0 in the SLC.  The Islanders have two matches remaining in the regular season.  They will host Lamar on Monday, April 8 and will conclude the regular season at Northwestern State on April 13.
