LSU bests McNeese in midweek battle

BATON ROUGE, La. – McNeese Baseball (16-15, 2-4 SLC) fell to defending national champions LSU (22-12, 3-9 SEC) 16-0 in seven innings Tuesday night at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

"It's non-conference and it's one game, but it still matters, and we've got some things we need to work on," said head coach Justin Hill.

Senior Peyton LeJeune earned the lone hit of the evening for the Cowboys in the top of the third on a power hit to the shortstop.

Senior Brock Barthelemy posted a scoreless outing through one inning for the Cowboys, striking out one batter to end the fourth inning. Max Swenson, a junior, and Clay Kennedy, a redshirt junior, combined for another scoreless inning in the sixth.

"We needed to see some guys that we may be able to use on the weekend," said Hill. "We had a really good weekend pitching wise in Beaumont and we only used a handful of guys."

Eight pitchers made an appearance on the mound for the Cowboys with six of them earning at least one strikeout.

The Cowboys return to Joe Miller Ballpark against UIW for Military Weekend April 12-14, returning to Southland play.
