LAKE CHARLES – Newcomers Larry Johnson and Tyshawn Archie each scored 14 points and reigning Southland Conference Player of the Year Javohn Garcia added 11 as McNeese defeated Grambling 62-56 in an exhibition on Sunday at the Townsley Law Arena.
 
The win completed the Cowboys' preseason schedule at 2-0 as they'll open the regular season next Monday, November 3, at home against Champion Christian at 6:30.
 
First year head coach Bill Armstrong played 10 players against Grambling with most playing 15 minutes or more.
 
McNeese trailed 28-25 at the half behind just 32 percent shooting from the floor and 2 of 15 from three-point range.
 
The second half was a better showing with 50 percent aim from the floor including 13 of 19 shooting inside the three-point arc.
 
For the game, the Cowboys connected on 20 of 30 shots in the paint while holding Grambling to 14 misses in the lane.
