LAKE CHARLES – McNeese Vice President and Director of Athletics Heath Schroyer has announced the hiring of Alexsis Cable as the new head coach of the McNeese Cowgirl soccer program.

Cable comes to McNeese after spending the last five seasons as an assistant coach at the University of North Texas where she helped develop 18 all-conference players including the 2022 Conference USA Player of the Year who led the league in goals scored that season.

"I am thrilled to join the McNeese family as the next soccer head coach," said Cable. "I look forward to serving our student-athletes, engaging with our alumni, and building on the tradition of this program as we elevate it to new levels of success. I can't wait to get to work."

Said Schroyer: "I'm thrilled to welcome Alexsis Cable to McNeese State University as our new head women's soccer coach. Alexsis' attention to detail, infectious energy, recruiting philosophy, regional ties and deep commitment to the holistic development of student-athletes truly stood out.

"I have no doubt she will build a program we can be proud of—both on and off the pitch."

While on staff at UNT, Cable played a vital role in recruiting standout talent on the freshman side which resulted in the Mean Green fielding six freshmen who were named to the league's all-freshman team.

"I'm incredibly grateful of Heath for entrusting me with this opportunity and believing in my vision as a first-time head coach," said Cable. "I'm excited to return to the Southland Conference and to make Louisiana home again. I'm ready to pour everything I have into this team, and I'm truly energized about the future of McNeese Soccer."

Prior to her stint at UNT Cable spent two seasons at Southland foe Nicholls serving as an assistant coach during the 2019 season and receiving a promotion to interim head coach ahead of the 2020 season.

Cable began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Northwestern State University during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

She played collegiate soccer at SLC rival Southeastern (2013-2014) where they made a trip to the NCAA Tournament after winning the 2013 SLC Tournament Championship and UNT (2015-2016) where she helped them notch back-to-back conference USA championships while also making the trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Cable graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Integrative Studies from the University of North Texas in May 2017 and a Master of Science in Human & Health Performance from Northwestern State University in May 2019.
