Archie garners SLC Player of the Week honors; Cowboys rise in mid-major polls

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese's Tyshawn Archie's performance in helping lead McNeese to a 2-0 week last week has resulted in him being named this week's Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
 
The junior from Houston averaged 21.0 points per game and recorded career highs in scoring in back-to-back games. He started the week with 18 points in a 66-64 win at Rhode Island which included the game-winning bucket with 1.2 seconds to play. He followed that up with 24 points in a 102-66 win over East Texas A&M on Friday night.
 
Archie connected on 16 of 23 from the field for 70 percent aim and knocked down 8 of 14 for 57 percent from three-point range.
 
He's the first Cowboy player to earn the weekly honor this season.
 
 
COWBOYS MOVE UP IN MID-MAJOR POLLS
 
Following its 2-0 week last week including a win at the Atlantic 10 Conference's Rhode Island Rams, McNeese moved up in all of the mid-major top 25 polls.
 
The Cowboys (9-2) jumped one spot to No. 19 in the CollegeInsider.com poll, 14th in the Mid-Major Power 25, tied for 17th in the Mid-Major Madness poll, and is No. 5 in the T3 Bracketology One Bid League Top 32.
