THIBODAUX—McNeese women's basketball continued to struggle putting a full game together here Saturday in an 84-67 loss at Nicholls. The loss was the second against the Colonels this season, dropping the Cowgirls to 8-14 overall and 3-8 in league play. Nicholls improves to 15-6 overall and 8-4 in the SLC with the win.
Paris Guillory, the Cowgirls leading scorer on the season led the Cowgirls with 17 points, 16 of which came in the second half.
Boston Berry came off the bench to score 13 points and
Wilnie Joseph added 10 points.
Nicholls' Elli Garnett led all players with a game high 23 points and completed her double double with 10 rebounds.
McNeese struggled to get into a rhythm from the field from the opening tip, ending the half connecting on 6 of 23 from the field for a 26.1 field goal percent while the Colonels ended the half shooting 43.3 percent from the field on 13 of 30 attempts. The Cowgirls didn't help their cause by turning the ball over 12 times in the half
The Colonels held a seven-point lead (24-17) with 6:38 left in the first half before a 15-9 scoring run gave them a 39-25 first half to lead.
Nicholls opened the second half the way they finished the first half by continuing their scoring run. In the first three minutes of the third quarter, Nicholls outscored the McNeese 10-2 to open up a 22-point lead at 49-27. The closest McNeese would get the rest of the game would be 12 points (54-42) with 2:20 left in the third quarter.
