WTEN: Cowgirls Extend Winning Streak With Win Over Missouri State

SEARCY, Ark.—McNeese women's tennis extended its winning streak to four matches Saturday with a 5-2 win over Missouri State (0-4) to improve to 4-1 on the season in a match that was played at Harding University.  The Cowgirls will travel to Conway, Arkansas on Sunday for a 10 a.m. match aat Central Arkansas.  The match will mark the third and final match played in Arkansas this weekend.

"What a great performance today," said first year head coach Sonia Carlson.  "We knew today would be a tough battle from the first point to the last one. We came out strong in doubles and were able to clinch the doubles point on nail-biting 7-6 on court 2.  We carried that momentum into singles from the very first point. Ana (Hollweg) got off the court super quickly giving us a huge 2-0 lead. Then Erica (Hagi) followed to put us up 3-2 on the scoreboard. Toffee (Ghorab) not only clinched the doubles but also the singles and had a day! Salome (Fluri) picked up a huge win on court 1 to cap it off. This was a big team win, and it'll give us a lot of confidence and momentum heading into tomorrow. "

McNeese opened the match with a 6-1doubles win on court 3 by Hollweg and Elena Morales.  Missouri State evened things up with a win on court 1, leaving court 2 to decide the doubles point.  This match took a tiebreaker to decide who would win and, in the end, it was the Cowgirls team comprised of Ariane Monlleo Sanchis and Toffee Ghorab who came away with a 7-6 (8-6) win to put the Cowgirls ahead 1-0 in the overall match.

A singles win at court 3 by Hollweg gave the Cowgirls a 2-0 match advantage.  Missouri State won the next two singles matches to even the match at two points apiece.  Erica Hagi picked up a 6-4, 7-5 win on court 2 to give McNeese the lead again at 3-2 and Ghorab's come from behind 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win on court 5 clinched the overall match.  Fluri's 7-5, 7-5 win on court 1 was the final Cowgirl point of the day.
