LAKE CHARLES – McNeese baseball suffered its first loss of the season to Wichita State 6-2 at Joe Miller Ballpark Sunday afternoon after claiming the series win Saturday night.
The Cowboys fall to 2-1 on the season while the Shockers rise to 1-2 after opening weekend. The series victory was the first time in program history McNeese was able to achieve the feat.

Wichita State took an early lead with a run in the first inning, scoring three additional runs in the top of the second.

McNeese got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning as senior Grand Mangrum scored to give junior
Connor Schneider an RBI on the day. Senior
Conner Westenburg brought junior
Larry Edwards Jr. home in the next at-bat to make it 4-2 at The Jeaux.

The Shockers added two runs in the eighth inning to make it 6-2 on the scoreboard heading into the final inning of play.

Five McNeese pitchers made their debut for the Cowboys with junior
Jake Blackwell making the start on the mound. By throwing the left-handed pitcher, it marked the first time in over 17 seasons the Cowboys started three left-handers during opening weekend.

McNeese takes to the road against top-ranked Texas A&M Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. in College Station, Texas.
