CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas—McNeese women's tennis dropped its tightly contested Southland Conference opener, 4-3 at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday, snapping the Cowgirls 12-match winning streak.
McNeese falls to 12-2 overall and 0-1 in the SLC while the Islanders improve to 11-1 on the year and 1-0 in the SLC.
The Islanders took the early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point with a 7-6 win on court 1 and a 6-3 win on court 3.
A 6-1, 6-1 singles win by Juliette Jalai over
Toffee Ghorab at No. 6 singles put the Islanders up 2-0.
A straight set 6-3, 6-0 win by
Salome Fluri over Ana Veroux at the no. 1 singles cut the Islander lead in half at 2-1.
The Islanders would then go on to pick up two more singles wins at No. 4 and No. 5 while
Erica Hagi and
Ana Hollweg picked up singles wins at No. 2 and No. 3 for the other Cowgirl points.
McNeese will continue its road trip and will travel to Edinburg, Texas to face UTRGV at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3 in a conference match.
