Cowboys complete season sweep of Ragin' Cajuns

LAFAYETTE – McNeese baseball defeated UL-Lafayette 4-2 on the road at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park Wednesday night to mark its first season sweep of the Ragin' Cajuns since 2003 in the Battle of I-10. The Cowboys elevate their record to 12-3 (4-2 SLC) as the Ragin' Cajuns move to 8-10 (0-0 SBC).

Seth Fontenot had a breakout game in his first start at catcher for the Cowboys, hitting 2-for-3 behind the plate. The sophomore had an RBI single in both of his initial at-bats, earning a walk in his third at-bat of the season. He is the 10th unique Poke to have a multi-hit game and multi-RBI game on the 2025 campaign.

Junior Cooper Golden earned his first victory of the season while freshman Brady Corcoran recorded his first save of 2025 after entering in the ninth. Eight pitchers appeared in the game with six of them shutting down the Ragin' Cajun offense by not permitting a run.

The victory marks the first time McNeese has defeated UL-Lafayette on the road in six seasons.

The Cowboys and Ragin' Cajuns exchanged blows early in the first with sophomore Mack Brousseau driving in a run with a single to center, bringing home senior Conner Westenburg. UL-Lafayette would bring a run in in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double.

Sophomore Seth Fontenot earned an RBI single in the second with his first hit in his first appearance as a Cowboy to drive in redshirt sophomore Easton Dowell. The Ragin' Cajuns responded with an RBI groundout in the third.

McNeese took a two-run advantage in the fourth inning as senior Simon Larranaga hit an RBI groundout to bring home junior Larry Edwards Jr. Fontenot earned his second RBI single in as many at-bats to scored Dowell, his second run of the day, lifting the Pokes ahead 4-2.

McNeese returns home for a series against the reigning SLC regular season Champions in Lamar, a rematch of the 2024 SLC Semifinals at Joe Miller Ballpark.
