Javohn Garcia earns NABC All-District honors

| By:
LAKE CHARLES – McNeese's Javohn Garcia, the Southland Conference Player of the Year and SLC Tournament MVP, has been selected to the NABC All-Gulf District Second Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.

The senior from Columbus, Ohio is the only player to represent the Southland on either of the two teams as he's helped lead the Cowboys to their second straight conference regular season championship and playing for a tournament title for the second-consecutive year.

Garcia, who leads the team in scoring with a 12.9 per game clip, also earned first team All-SLC honors this season and is a finalist for the Lou Henson Award as the nation's top mid-major player. He leads the team with 23 double-digit scoring games and has a team-high six contests when scoring 20 or more, including in a conference tournament semifinal win against Northwestern State where he netted 24.

He's started all 33 games this season and has played 951 minutes while turning the ball over only 31 times and carries a league-best 25.1 efficiency, ranking as one of the top 200 players in all of Division I basketball.

The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division I.

The NABC introduced a new model for its Division I district alignment this season, with schools arranged by state rather than by conference. The modernized NABC Division I district alignment features 10 geographic regions that each encompass multiple states. Every Division I school in each given state belongs to that state's corresponding district.

The Gulf District is made up of Division I schools from Louisiana and Texas totaling 37 universities.
