LAKE CHARLES--- McNeese softball completed its Southland Conference series sweep over Nicholls Saturday with a doubleheader win to extend the Cowgirls winning streak to seven games.
McNeese (21-13, 7-2 SLC) began the day with a 7-3 win in game one of the doubleheader then completed the sweep with a 5-1 in game two.
Nicholls (10-20, 3-6 SLC) took the early lead in both games, but the Cowgirls bats came alive and at the end of the day McNeese scored a total of 12 runs on 17 hits.
Of the 17 hits, eight were extra base hits including two home runs by
Reese Reyna in the first game of the doubleheader. Reyna,
Delaney Dunham, and
Nyjah Fontenot all ended the day with three hits apiece. Reyna's hits consisted of two homeruns and a double to give her five RBI on the day.
In the opening game, Nicholls took advantage of a Cowgirl error in the first inning to lead 1-0. Reyna tied the game up at one apiece in the fourth inning with her first homerun of the game and second of the season.
McNeese blew the game open one inning later with six runs on six hits to take a 7-1 lead. Reyna struck again with her second long ball of the game, this time it was a three-run homerun.
Nicholls would score its other two runs in the seventh inning before
Maddie Taylor got bot Brynne Songy to ground out to end the game.
Taylor picked up the complete game win to improve to 8-5 overall. Taylor allowed three runs on six hits, struck out three and allowed one walk.
In the series finale, once again Nicholls took the early lead in their first at bat of the game but McNeese took the lead for good by scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning for a 2-1 lead.

Kassidy Chance who led the inning off with a single tied the game at one all. Mundine gave the Cowgirls the lead after scoring the go ahead run on a single by
Nyjah Fontenot.

Brylie Fontenot for a 3-1 McNeese lead.
McNeese added two more insurance runs in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice by
Rylie Bouvier and a sacrifice fly by Reyna.
Ryann Schexnayder picked up the complete game victory after allowing only one run on four hits, four strikeouts and one walk to improve to 4-1 overall.
