Box Score NATCHITOCHES--- McNeese women's tennis fell short in a tightly contest Southland Conference match at first place Northwestern State on Saturday by a 4-3 score to drop the Cowgirls to 18-5 overall and 5-3 in the SLC. The loss also snapped the Cowgirls five match winning streak. All three conference losses have been by a 4-3 score.
McNeese will travel to Nacogdoches, Texas on Monday, April 14 to face Stephen F. Austin in its regular season finale. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
Northwestern State improved to 8-6 overall and remained undefeated in conference play at 7-0.
The Lady Demons won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. McNeese picked up wins on courts one and three to take a 2-1 lead.
Salome Fluri defeated Zoi Spyrou on court one in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) to improve to 20-2 overall and remained undefeated at 8-0 in the SLC. With her 20
th win, Fluri becomes the sixth Cowgirl in program history to win at least 20 matches in a season.
Ana Hollweg also won her match in straight sets, defeating Honoka Umeda (6-2, 6-3) on court three to improve to 15-6 overall and 6-2 in the SLC.
NW State evened the match at two all with a straight set win on court two, but
Stella Rundova's straight set win (6-3, 6-4) over Sofi Garcia on court six regained the lead for the Cowgirls at 3-2.
Unfortunately, the Cowgirls couldn't pull out one win in the final two matches remaining, court four and court five. Both matches were decided in three sets.
NW State's Maria Farina defeated Alex Martinez 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 on court 4 to even the match again at three apiece.
The Lady Demons clinched the match with a 7-5, 0-6, 7-5 win by Ayu Ishibashi on court five.
