THIBODAUX – McNeese tennis fell in the SLC Quarterfinals to third-seeded Northwestern State 4-2 Wednesday evening at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex. The squad finished the season with a 19-7 record, going 5-4 in conference play while the Lady Demons improve to 10-7, 8-1 SLC.
 
Northwestern State clinched the doubles point as the No. 3 and No. 1 doubles claimed 6-0 and 6-3 wins respectively. The No. 2 doubles flight was left unfinished ahead of singles play.
 
Alexa Martinez, a freshman, tied it up at one each between the programs, taking a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ishibashi as the No. 4 singles. 
 
The Lady Demons fought back to regain a 2-1 lead by taking the No. 6 singles before Elena Morales (freshman) tied things up again with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. The loss marked Stella Rundova's first of the year after starting out with a mighty 12-0 record as a freshman.
 
McNeese fell in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles which brought the season to a close for the Cowgirls.
 
Head coach Sonia Carlson set a record by winning 19 matches in her initial season with the program. Salome Fluri ended the season with a 19-match win streak with her quest to extend it to 20 coming to an end with an unfinished match. The Player and Freshman of the Year amassed a 22-2 record in singles play.
 
McNeese defeated Nicholls in the opening round of the SLC tournament to advance to the quarterfinals.
