EDINBURG, Texas –
Conner Westenburg's two home runs on Friday night against UTRGV launched McNeese to an early lead but it the three runs in the top of the 10
th inning that lifted the Cowboys to a 9-6 win to keep them atop the Southland Conference standings.
The win gave the Cowboys their 30
th victory of the season (30-8), marking the quickest team in school history to reach 30 wins, doing it in 38 games. They also improved to 17-5 in league play, staying even with Southeastern atop the conference standings who defeated HCU 1-0. UTRGV fell to 26-15 and 17-8.
The series will continue on Saturday night at 6:30.

HOW IT HAPPENED
T1 –
Conner Westenburg led off the the game with a solo home run. McNeese 1-0.
B1 – Galvan hit a one-out double then scored on a double by Warrant to tie the game 1-1.
T5 –
Grant Mangrum drew a one-out walk. Westenburg followed with a two-run home run, his second of the game, to make it 3-1.
T6 – Schneider hit a one-out single up the middle.
Easton Dowell followed with a double to advance Schneider to third base. Mangrum knocked both in with a two out single to left field to make it 5-1.
B6 – Sanchez led off with a home run to close the gap to 5-2. Moomau double to left field and Lancia homered to cut the margin to 5-4. After a pitching change, reliever Corcoran got the next three batters our in order, the first two on strikeouts.
T7 – Stancliff led off the inning with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a balk. He later moved to third on a one out balk and scored on a single by Heusohn to make it 6-4.
B8 – Williams hit a one out solo home run to cut the McNeese lead to 6-5.
B9 – Janner walked then stole second with two outs. He scored to tie the game 6-6 on a two-out bloop single to right field by Sanchez.
T10 – Heusohn and Edwards Jr. started the inning off with back-to-back singles. Fontenot entered to run for Heusohn and scored when
Easton Dowell hit a one out single, giving McNeese a 7-6 lead. Two more runs scored off an RBI fielder's choice by Plowman, the first off the fielder's choice and the second on a throwing error on a play at home plate.
