LAKE CHARLES – McNeese track and field got its 2026 indoor season underway on Friday with the annual running of the McNeese Indoor I meet at the Ralph Ward Rec Complex on the McNeese campus.
 
Eight Cowgirls and four Cowboys posted first place finishes. There were two double-winners – Jaslyn Russell for the Cowgirls in the shot put (47-11) and the weight throw (58-8 ½) and Daniel Miller for the Cowboys in the 55-meter dash (6.67) and in the 200-meters (22.76).
 
Cowboys distance runner Omar El-Fadl broke the meet record in the 3,000-meters with a first place time of 8:16.12, more than two seconds faster than the previous record held by Nathan Jones and set in 2018.
 
Also on the men's side, freshman pole vaulter Lucas Owens made his college debut a memorable one by winning the event after clearing 13-7 ¼.
 
Cowgirl freshman sprinter Sarah Davidson debuted by winning the 55-meters with a time of 7.86. Uxue Castro-Martin won the mile race by clocking a personal best time of 5:06.35 and Jeny Barcenas won her fourth career 3,000-meter race with a time of 10:09.09.
