Cowgirls Rout UTRGV To Extend Winning Streak

EDINBURG, Texas—McNeese women's basketball extended its winning streak to seven games with its 70-54 road win over UTRGV Saturday.  The Cowgirls improve to 14-4v overall and 8-1 in the Southland Conference.

McNeese placed three players in double figure scoring with Arianna Patton leading all players with 15 points including nine points coming off three 3-pointers.  Kaili Chamberlin came off the bench to score 11 points, nine coming from three 3-pointers.  Dakota Howard chipped in with 10 points.

UTRGV was led in scoring by Erin McQuire's nine points.  Jalayah Ingram led all players with 11 rebounds while Charlotte O'Keefe, UTRGV's leading scorer and rebounder was held to eight points and 10 rebounds. 

Both teams traded baskets early in the game before the Cowgirls went on a 6-0 to take and eight point lead with less than a minute left in the first quarter.  McNeese's offense started to click with 7:35 left in the first half when the Cowgirls put together a 15-0 scoring run within five minutes to lead by 18 points (34-16).  

The Cowgirls scoring run was aided by two three-pointers by Kaili Chamberlin and one by Arianna Patton.  The Cowgirls got a putback basket by Allasia Washington and a layup by Patton with 2:30 left in the half.  McNeese held a 14-point (34-20) halftime lead.    
UTRGV scored the final four points of the half from the free throw line where they scored 11 of their first half 20 points.

McNeese continued to build its lead and took its first 20-point lead following a Chamberlin putback.  The Cowgirls outscored the Vaqueros 25-13 in the third quarter and held as much as a 23 point lead on a Patton three-pointer with just under a minute left in the quarter.

The Cowgirls opened the fourth quarter by scoring the first seven points with five coming from Patton who picked up a steal and layup followed by her third three-pointer of the game.

McNeese held its largest lead of the game (29 points) early in the fourth quarter.


1st QUARTER
• Both teams traded baskets early in the game and the Cowgirls held a 6-4 lead at the first media timeout
• McNeese went on a 6-0 run to take an eight-point lead (12-4) following one of two Alexander free throws with just under two minutes left in the quarter

• UTRGV got as close as three points (19-16) twice in the quarter
• McNees went on an 15-0 run behind three-pointers from Kaili Chamberlin and Arianna Patton for its first double figure lead (18 pts.) 34-16 midway through the quarter
• McNeese was 4 of 10 from 3-point range in the half
• McNeese scored 14 points off 10 UTRGV turnovers
• McNeese's bench scored 16 first half points
• Chamberlin led McNeese in scoring in the first half with nine points 
• UTRGV scored 11 of their first half 20 points from the free throw line

HALFTIME: McNeese 34, UTRGV 20

3rd QUARTER
• UTRGV cut the McNeese lead to 11 points early in the quarter but a 6-0 run by the Cowgirls gave them a 19 point (42-25) lead with 6:08 left in the quarter.
• McNeese held its first 20 point lead (48-28)following a Chamberlin putback and held its largest lead of the game of 23 following a Patton three-pointer
• McNeese took its largest lead of the game (23 pts.) 55-32 following a Patton three-pointer

• McNeese scored the first seven points of the quarter with five points coming from Patton's layup and third three-pointer of the game. 
• The Cowgirls held its largest lead of the game of 29 points early in the quarter

McNEESE NOTES
• McNeese improved to 14-4 overall and 8-1 in the SLC
• The Cowgirls extended its winning streak to seven games and have won 11 of its last 13 games
• Three Cowgirls scored in double figures
