Larry Johnson jump shot against UTRGV on Saturday.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – McNeese will look to bounce back following Saturday's loss at UTRGV when it faces another road challenge against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday afternoon to close out the South Texas road swing.
Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will broadcast on ESPN+.
McNeese (14-4, 7-2 SLC) lost 79-76 to the Vaqueros on Saturday to snap its seven-game Southland Conference winning streak. The Cowboys fell behind by as many as 23 points late in the first half but rallied and had two shot attempts in the final seconds to send the game into overtime.
Tyshawn Archie, who is second on the team in scoring (14.7 ppg) for the season but leads the squad in conference games (15.8 ppg), is coming off a 23-point game against UTRGV, his second 20-point game in the last three outings.
Larry Johnson tops the team in scoring with 16.5 points and is right behind Archie in league games with a 15.7 mark.
The Islanders are 10-8 on the year and 6-3 in conference play and sit one game behind McNeese in the standings while Stephen F. Austin sits on top with an 8-1 record. AMCC defeated Southeastern 68-56 and led by 20 at the half after getting out to a fast start. The Islanders are 6-1 at home this season and 35-5 at home under head coach Jim Shaw.
Two of those home losses are to the Cowboys over the last two seasons, both by one point. Two years ago, McNeese recorded the greatest second half comeback in school history when it rallied from 18 points down with just under 13 minutes to play and won when
Christian Shumate tipped in a missed Antavion Collum attempt with 0.3 seconds left to win 62-61.
Then last year, McNeese won 74-73 after the Islanders had a three-point attempt to tie the game with less than three seconds to play.
The Islanders' only home loss this season came at the hands of Nicholls who won 76-71 back on December 29. Since then, the only blemish on AMCC's schedule was a last second loss at Northwestern State.
Following Monday's game, McNeese will return home for a Saturday afternoon matchup against New Orleans before hitting the road again for three straight outings.
