LAKE CHARLES—McNeese volleyball fell 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23) to preseason favorite Stephen F. Austin here Thursday night in a tightly contested Southland Conference match. With the loss, McNeese falls to 4-10 overall and 0-3 in the SLC. The Ladyjacks improved to 9-7 overall and remained undefeated in the SLC at 3-0.
"I thought reception errors plagued us tonight and that was the biggest difference in the match," said head coach a
Tayler Gray. "Our three guns and their three guns equaled out across the board, it came down to serve and pass and fundamentals. I challenged our team to hit cleaner and we did that tonight. There are some positive things that we did tonight, I'm disappointed in our serve and pass."
McNeese committed 14 reception errors while the Ladyjacks had five. The match also consisted of 22 ties and five lead changes and all four sets could have gone either way.
McNeese placed three players in double figure kills with
Gabbie Maldonado leading all players with 15 kills. Maldonado ended the match with a .382 hitting percent.
Kayla Wilson and
Ava Henry both ended the match with 14 kills apiece.
SFA had three players reach double figure kills with Caroline Kahle and Molly Cravens both ending the match with 13 apiece. Jordan Henderson had 11 kills.
McNeese will remain home to host Lamar at 12 p.m. this Saturday.
