LAKE CHARLES - McNeese men's basketball will play its final exhibition of the preseason on Sunday when the Cowboys host Southern at 2 p.m. in Townsley Law Arena.
Â
The game is open to the public and admission is free. Seating is open on a first-come, first-serve basis in terms of seat selection. There will be no broadcast but live stats will be available on McNeeseSports.com.
Â
McNeese has played two preseason scrimmages so far, falling to LSU 63-60 in Lake Charles back on October 8 then defeating South Alabama in a closed scrimmage last Sunday in Baton Rouge.
Â
Sunday's game will be the final tune-up before the Cowboys begin regular season play on November 2 against UAB in the Field of 68 Opening Day Marathon.
Â
"We're always excited to play in Townsley Law Arena in front of our friends and family," said second-year head coach Bill Armstron. "Hopefully, we can use this as another opportunity to continue improving. Our guys understand the areas we need to get better in, and we've been working hard to address them. Now, we have to translate that work into results on the court.
Â
"We have a tremendous amount of respect for Coach Johnson and his program. They narrowly missed the NCAA Tournament last season after a heartbreaking loss in the conference championship game. His teams always play hard and compete for every inch on the court. We have to make sure they don't outwork us or play more physically than we do."
Â
McNeese will be back in Townsley Law Arena on November 9 when it hosts the College of Biblical Studies.
