HAMMOND— Southeastern volleyball lived up to their billing by leading the Southland Conference in blocks by picking up 28 blocks in its 3-1 (25-22, 29-27, 22-25, 25-14) Southland Conference home opening win Thursday night to extend their winning streak to four matches.
McNeese (5-11, 1-4 SLC) finished the match with two players with double figure kills.
Gabbie Maldonado led all players with match high 15 kills while
Ava Henry ended the match with 13 kills. The Cowgirls were credited with 15 blocks with Henry leading the way with five.
Southeastern (7-11, 4-1 SLC) had three players record double figure kills with Kyra McKelvey leading the Lions with 14 kills. Gracie Brown had 13 and Abby Bailey had 10 kills, respectively.
The Lions were credited with 26 block assists and two solo blocks on the night. Brown led with seven blocks, Keira Beverly was credited with six and Melina Gonzalez picked up five blocks.
McNeese will travel to LSU New Orleans on Saturday for an 11 a.m. match that will stream on ESPN+.
SET 1
• Southeastern took the opening set 25-22 behind a .405 hitting percent

• For the second straight set, Southeastern took an early 15-9 lead then led 23-19
• Behind the serve of
Megan Grose, McNeese scored six straight points to take a 24-23 lead.
• The Cowgirls had two chances to close out the set but Southeastern would even the score both times.
• McNeese trailed 27-26 but
Ava Henry's kill tied the set at 27 apiece.
• Southeastern closed out the set on back-to-back errors to take a 2-0 overall match lead
SET 3
• McNeese avoided the sweep with the third set win
• The Cowgirls jumped out to a 7-3 lead then led 22-19 later in the set

SET 4
• McNeese's offense struggled as they committed nine hitting errors to end the set with a .000 hitting percent.
• McNeese scored the first three points of the set, but the Lions took the lead at 8-7 and never looked back on its way to picking up the set and overall match win.
