Lake Charles – McNeese out-hit Kansas in Sunday's finale of a three-game baseball series but the Jayhawks took advantage of two early McNeese errors with four of their first five runs unearned which helped lead them to a 6-1 win over the Cowboys and completing the series sweep.
McNeese fell to 2-5 on the season while Kansas improved to 5-2. The Cowboys will return to action on Tuesday when they visit LSU at 6:30 on ESPN+.
Kansas struck first in the top of the first when Tyson Leblanc reached safely on a fielding error which would score Jordan Bach. In the top of the second Augusto Mungarrieta hit a sac fly to center field to drive in Max Soliz Jr. Dariel Osorio grounded out to third base, which allowed another run to come across the plate. Brady Ballinger singled through the right side to drive in two more runs for the Jayhawks to put them up 5-0 heading to the bottom of the second.
The Cowboys got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when
Hayden Stringfellow singled through the left side to bring in
Danny Barbero from third.
Kansas would add another run in the top of the seventh when Cade Baldridge reach on a fielding error that would score Osorio from first to go up 6-1.
The starter for the Jayhawks, Madden Seidl, pitched 4 innings while only allowing one run on five hits with two strikeouts. Kansas' relief pitchers combined for allowing zero runs on three hits, six strikeouts and one walk.
Cowboy starter
Garett Blanchard took the loss after he allowed five runs on two hits in 2.0 innings of work. The four pitchers in relief of the starter combined for one run on three hits, four walks and eight strikeouts.
Eric Nachtsheim had an outstanding outing as he held the Jayhawks to zero runs, one hit, and seven strikeouts through four innings of work.
