LAKE CHARLES-- For the second straight day McNeese softball went 2-0 with run-rule wins over Tulsa and UL-Monroe on the third day of the Twisted Vines Bayou Bash. The Cowgirls improve to 4-1 on the season. The tournament will conclude on Sunday with UL-Monroe facing North Texas at 1 p.m.
McNeese began Saturday's action with a 13-5 win over Tulsa before ending the day with a 9-1 win over ULM .
The Cowgirls took a 2-0 lead in the second inning against Tulsa but allowed the Hurricane to score four runs in the fourth to take a lead 4-2.
One inning later, McNeese tied the game four apiece when
Delaney Dunham scored on a double steal and
Maddie Taylor singled in
Kassidy Chance.
Tulsa retook the lead (5-4) in the top of the sixth, but McNeese ended the game with nine runs in the bottom of the inning.
Against ULM, McNeese scored at least one run in each of the five innings. The Cowgirls lead 2-0 after the first inning the tacked on four more in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth. ULM score their only run of the game in the second inning.
After picking up a combined 21 hits on Friday, the Cowgirls came back on Saturday to pick up a combined 20 hits on the day.
Taylor and
Nyjah Fontenot led McNeese with four hits apiece on the day. Taylor hit her second homerun of the season against Tulsa and ended the day with five RBI. Fontenot hit her first homerun of the season against ULM, and
Rylee Cloud hit her second career homerun and first of as a Cowgirl against Tulsa.
