Cowboys Drop Series Finale At Nicholls

THIBODAUX – McNeese baseball dropped the series finale at Nicholls on Sunday by a score of 3-2. McNeese falls to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in conference, while Nicholls improves to 5-8 overall and 1-2 in conference.
 
The Colonels held the Cowboys to just three hits in the game, while the Cowboy defense committed two errors, one in the second and one in the fifth.
 
The Cowboys struck first in the top half of the first inning when Hayden Stringfellow singled to score Danny Barbero to take the early 1-0 lead in the game. The very next inning, Kaden Schuck would draw a walk to bring in Korey Cooper as the bases were loaded to go up 2-0 over Nicholls.
 
Nicholls would respond in the bottom half of the second inning when Casey Artiques grounded out to first which would score Greyson Shafer. Two batters later, Jaxon Milam singled through the left side of the infield to score Will Mabry to tie the game up at 2.
 
It wasn't until the bottom of the fourth when Noah Detillier singled through the left side to score Milam for the Colonels to take the lead and hold it over the last five innings of play.
 
The starter for the Colonels, Haden Luke, pitched 5.1 innings while allowing two runs on three hits, three walks and five strikeouts on the way to picking up his second win of the season to move to 2-1 overall. Cole Simoneaux, Eli Waters, and Joseph Bordelon came in as relief for Nicholls and pitched the final 3.2 innings holding the Cowboys to no hits, no runs, one walk and six strikeouts. Bordelon was credited with his first save of the season. 
 
McNeese starter, Garett Blanchard pitched 3 innings and allowed two runs on two hits and walked two batters. Paul Coppinger came in as relief for the Cowboys and pitched 1.2 innings while giving up one run on three hits to pick up his first loss of the season. Brady Corcoran came in for the last 3.1 innings of play only allowing one hit, while walking one and striking out two.
